Ahopsan Forest
is a magnificent 520,000γ‘ private forest located in Gijang-gun, Busan, carefully preserved by the Nampyeong Moon family for over 400 years. This mystical forest, closed to the public until 2016, features spectacular bamboo groves made famous by the K-drama 'The King: Eternal Monarch'.
This is not just a tourist destination. It's a living ecological museum that has maintained its pristine natural state through the Japanese colonial period and the Korean War, never once being damaged or developed.
"A masterpiece of nature crafted over 400 years - discover Korea's true natural beauty at Ahopsan Forest."
π² 400 Years of Secret Forest History
400-year-old Korean Pine Trees - 116 trees designated as protected natural monuments
The name "Ahopsan" comes from pure Korean language meaning "mountain with nine valleys". After the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592-1598), the Nampyeong Moon family settled here and have maintained the forest for 9 generations with the philosophy of "cherishing even a single fern."
During the Japanese colonial period, while Japanese forces damaged pine trees across Korea to extract resin, this forest remained hidden deep in the mountains and escaped discovery. Thanks to this, 116 Korean pine trees aged 100-400 years
have been perfectly preserved and are now designated as protected trees.
πΏ Amazing Fact:
In 2004, the Korea Forest Service designated Ahopsan Forest as "A Beautiful Forest to Preserve for the 22nd Century." A forest planned for the future - how special is that?
